During these tough economic times, when mass layoffs are reported in the news almost daily, American workers are very concerned about job security. Their concern is certainly justified. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly a quarter million American workers were laid off  in the month of September alone.  In the first nine months of 2008,  over 1.5 million workers were laid off.
